Although Weave Realty has been largely focused on emergency services, especially fire and rescue, we also have a good collaboration with the City Planning Office in Trondheim. Their goal in using Weave Maps is quite simple: To be able to see proposed new buildings in the actual surroundings in which they are intended to be set up. That way, you get a better impression of, among other things, the needs of the city.
The video shows a planned construction project in Hanskemakerbakken in Trondheim. The models loaded into the map can be low-resolution or high-resolution, depending on what is available for the project in question. In this case, models with a higher level of detail were loaded.
With Weave Realty, you have the opportunity to position yourself around the street level, either close to the building or far away, position yourself on the verandas of the building, or perhaps the veranda of the neighboring building. Seeing the building from different perspectives can provide a good basis for discussion and assessments about changes in the building mass.
Are the buildings too big?
Are the sightlines good enough?
Are the buildings too dense?
How does the building mass look from a distance?
The Google map base has its weaknesses, but it is still interesting to see how much information it can provide when you see a planned building mass deployed in its actual surroundings.
Perhaps such solutions can contribute to making it more difficult in the future for contractors to charm authorities with polished drawings in order to get a construction project approved?
