In the operational everyday, the difference between a good and a bad decision often lies in the details. With a Street View blended with deployed virtual objects, we can give our users higher visual precision at ground level.

The function is still in early beta, so we will continue to work on improving the experience of this feature in the coming months. Weave Maps' Street View function gives you the ability, with a single keystroke, to seamlessly jump from the overall 3D map down to photographic surroundings in Street View.

Blends 3D Models with Reality

Objects and scenarios you have placed in the 3D map will now "blend" with the photographic surroundings in Street View. Since Street View is 360-degree images taken from specific points, the conversion from the 3D map to Street View will send you to the nearest Street View-supported point, which may mean some displacement from your original position.

Ground-Level Details Have Great Value

For our users in fire and rescue, the bird's-eye view is useful for tactical overview, but critical assessments often require getting closer. Image resolution at ground level in 3D maps is a challenge, as we are dependent on the level of detail in the map models we use. But with the Street View integration, you can now identify details that were previously unclear:

• Building construction: What type of cladding does the building have? Are there flammable materials or visible air gaps?

• Access and evacuation: Where are the windows placed, and are there balconies or protruding elements that affect ladder placement?

• Technical points: Are there visible vents or other vulnerabilities in the facade?

The Way Forward

This is our first release of the function, and we are already working on fine-tuning the experience. Our goal is for the transition between map layers and photographs to feel as natural as possible, and for user-friendliness to be high.
