How do you give thousands of new employees the same solid start on a busy production line, without tying up your most experienced people for months? That is the question we are now working on together with a multinational industrial company.
We are pleased to announce that Weave Reality has signed a significant agreement with a multinational industrial company, where we will deliver a cross-platform application for training and onboarding of new employees.
Onboarding at scale
Over the next five years, the company will onboard between 3,000 and 5,000 new employees. Traditionally, new operators learn the job side by side with an experienced colleague. That works well when a few people start at a time. It does not scale when dozens start every month.
The application is meant to play a key role in the company's onboarding effort:
Relieve the organisation: Take over a large share of the basic training that today ties up mentors and line leaders.
A uniform onboarding experience: Every new employee gets the same introduction to the production line, regardless of shift, department or who is available to train them.

Built on Weave Maps
The solution builds directly on Weave Maps and the foundation we have developed together with fire and rescue services over the past years: 3D environments, scene-based scenarios, and support for VR headsets, PC, web and tablet.
This time we are moving from photorealistic outdoor maps to the inside of a factory. To make the solution fit the client's context as well as possible, we are adding new functionality and customisations:
Multiple-choice exercises in 3D: Questions tied directly to the 3D environment, such as the factory interior and the individual stations on the production line. New employees learn what things are and how they work, in the place where they belong.
Admin portal: Administrators build and adjust exercises themselves, as they see fit. The training content stays in the hands of the people who know the production best.
Also relevant for emergency services
The expansion into industry does not change our focus on fire and rescue. Several of the new features are just as useful there, and will become part of Weave Maps for all our customers. An instructor can, for example, add knowledge checks to a discussion exercise, and smooth movement makes it easier to follow how units and vehicles move between scenes during an exercise or a debrief.
We would like to thank our new client for their trust, and for an open and constructive process so far. We look forward to sharing more as the project develops.
Do you work with training or onboarding in a complex physical environment? We would be happy to talk about how Weave Maps can be adapted to your needs.
